Disclaimer: We will sometimes use fanart to help potray the image a person has involving a certain situation of two or more characters. We do not own any of the art we post. Credit belongs to the original artists. Sometimes however we cannot locate the original location being how vast the internet is and how many time something has been copied and placed on a new site. (Since you have this on your blog, how and why was everyone getting upset over using someone's art? I'm confused ;;)

To the Anon:

I’m the artist who’s work was taken without permission. I’ve never visited this blog before, I never saw that disclaimer*, all I saw in the tag was my artwork cropped and edited with sexual content plastered over it. Understandably, I freaked out because, what the fuck, that’s my art why is it being used in this way, no one asked me, I am not okay with this, I want it down. Now, it was/could have been mistaken for official art, as that was what I was trying to go for, however, that does not excuse the use of fanart in this kind of manner.

naughty-tales-confessions:

I think it has to do with the fact that artists spend a lot of time on their work, and by a lot I mean a lot (I know because I am an artist myself)

Art isn’t just something that happens over night, it takes time, sweat, a lot of cursing, and maybe some crying as well, and the fact that people will just use their art which they worked tirelessly on without giving proper credit kinda hurts people’s feelings.

Most people don’t seem to realize this, though, which is why reposting art is such a common theme on the internet. It also does not help that on the internet lying is much easier to do. What was re-posted by someone on one site can easily become someone’s “original” work on someone else’s. I know, I’ve seen it happen.

Which is why things like this happen because you can find someone’s art on an image hosting site, see that it looks like official artwork, and use it. Moderators are only human. We have limited time, sometimes can’t keep track of the other, and in cases like this there is only one active mod (Since I’ve got computer issues going on right now and cannot help make confessions), and all of what I just mentioned gets even harder.

I don’t appreciate having verbal abuse thrown at the one mod who’s trying to provide everyone with their weird fucked up submissions. People make mistakes. There’s no need for name calling and being a hostile brat. Especially if it’s not even your artwork.

Here, I’m going to provide a list of what to do if you ever see someone re-posting artwork without credit.

  1. Contact the artist themselves.
  2. Let the artist handle the situation
  3. If situation continues, message the person themselves (DO NOT BE A DICK BECAUSE THAT TENDS TO WORSEN THE ORDEAL AND THE THIEF MIGHT JUST KEEP IT UP TO SPITE YOU)
  4. Do not harass the person or send them hate mail because that is just childish and shitty. Even if they are being a douche guzzling jerk ass, sending hate mail will only fuel their pathetic behavior.
  5. If all else fails and they won’t delete it, report to the website staff. If they, for some fucking reason, don’t do anything about it, consider taking your art elsewhere where staff actually give a damn.
  6. In the end they might not ever take it down. This is unfortunate. This is where all you can really do is just find a way to deal with the event whether it’s reminding everyone of who the artist of that piece is, or what have you.

I kinda went off about this, and I almost continued, but I should probably stop before I write a synthesis on “The Dangers of Posting Art Online”….

All I can say is that the active mod has said they will stay as far away from fanart as they can, and apologizes for this. Also that I want this topic to drop after this.

If anyone has any issues with what I said, take it up at my personal blog. Let’s try to keep drama to a minimal, please (assume there will be any, of course.)

Disclaimer: We will sometimes use fanart to help portray the image a person has involving a certain situation of two or more characters. We do not own any of the art we post. Credit belongs to the original artists. Sometimes however we cannot locate the original location being how vast the internet is and how many time something has been copied and placed on a new site

This kind of disclaimer? It’s utter bullshit and is used as a blanket statement to okay art theft. ‘Credit to the artists’ is not credit. ‘We cannot locate a source’ is not credit. It’s lazy, and excusing shitty behavior. Taking a picture without asking if it’s okay and posting it elsewhere is art theft. Triple whammy for taking a person’s art, putting graphic sexual content over it, and throwing it out on the internet for everyone to see- without crediting them. And that kind of sexual content can easily trigger or set off the artist when they see it. I know my anxiety went through the roof when I saw my picture in the tags with that kind of stuff on it.

Also, regardless of whether there’s a second mod or not, if it’s understood that artwork takes time, effort, and emotional investment, why is this kind of excuse allowed? Why was there no discussion or consideration that, hey, this is not cool and we shouldn’t be doing this because we get that art takes time?

Keep fanart off of this blog unless you have explicit permission by the artist for this kind of use. Otherwise, use official art for all of your confessions.

To the other mod:

I received an apology from someone else. I want you, the person who made the mistake, to own up to it and give me a proper apology. Don’t hide behind them for your mistake.
